Pick the Best Vouchers Team for Your Needs
Getting an award for a workers’ compensation injury isn’t the end of the process. But getting all the benefits you’re entitled to and access to all the schools and programs legally open to you isn’t always a sure thing. Having access to expert help – with no conflict of interests or hidden agendas – is critical to your future. Choose your vouchers team carefully.
How Does the Voucher Process Work?
In California, workers who have been injured on the job are potentially eligible for a Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit (SJDB) benefit if they meet certain criteria:
Injuries on or after Jan. 1, 2013
Their employer does not offer them a permanent, modified job that pays at least 85% of their pre-injury earnings within 60 days of receipt of the Physician's Return to Work & voucher Report (Form DWC-AD 10133.36)
Injury resulted in permanent partial disability
Once a claim is successfully filed by an injured worker, a claims administrator at the employer’s insurance company issues the injured worker a return to work (RTW) voucher.
The injured worker contacts a state-approved vocational return to work counseling team at a company like Gemini Legal.
Your voucher counseling team
Receives your signed voucher Completes an initial consultation with you to discuss your potential benefits and our capabilities,
Submits your application for the $5,000 RTW benefits (for applicants injured on or after Jan. 1, 2012 only) to the state, and
Helps you claim the SJDB benefits owed to you from the insurance company.
Your voucher case specialist helps select the best training, education, or other option for your needs.
The voucher cannot be exchanged for cash and the benefit must be used within two years of issuance or five years of the date of injury, whichever date comes later.
